Hi Guysâ Splasomai hereâ I have been wandering in the existential phenomenological wasteland for the last 40 years (the same as Moses). I will try not to bore you. I left you guys in '64, majored in philosophy and psychology at Santa Clara University, and joined VISTA in 1969 (as opposed to going to Viet Nam). They sent me to Utah with a teaching corps (I ended up teaching guitar and moonlighting in a Black night club with a soul band). After that, I set up Utah's first residential drug treatment program for the Salvation Army, and eventually got into the MSW program at the University of Utah. I then escaped a most repressive culture and came to Santa Cruz to be clinical director of the Methadone/Heroin detox program for five long years. I took a couple of years off to mow lawns at my golf course and do woodworking, and, in time, went back to my profession, doing forensic social services in the criminal justice system. In the early 80's I got into long term geriatric care, where I have remained. I am consulting in 60 plus hospital and nursing homes, throughout Northern California, teaching and pedaling my book, Social Services Interventions in Long Term Care (Hayworth Press, NY). My wife, Sue (30 plus years married!) has a successful psychotherapy practice in Santa Cruz; daughter, Casey, is a photographer in New York City; and son Ryan, is a cabinet maker, and new dad (along with partner, Katie) of our first grandchild, Connor. For fun, I play as much golf as time and money allows, work out daily, and garden the acre we live on, in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also have a very small winery, producing primarily Cabernets and Cabernet Ports. Nice to be reconnected! --Mike dmsplain@gmail.com |
