Stories

Even though I'm only 14, I think I know enough about baseball to make some predictions. I have been loved baseball as long as I can remember. My grandma was raised around baseball, and her dad took her to many baseball games. She became a diehard Giant fan, taking me often to many games. I read Sport's Illustrated cover to cover, and read the newspaper Sports Page daily, and anything I can find about baseball. So here are my predictions.

MLB AWARDS FOR 2005

NATIONAL

LEAGUE

AMERICAN

LEAGUE

Manager of the Year

For the National League, I predict Frank Robinson of the Washington Nationals because he took a last place team and made it a first place team after they moved from Montreal to Washington.

In the American League, Ozzie Guillan who manages the White Sox is my pick because he made a mediocre team into a great time by bringing in better players and managing them better.

MVP

(Most Valuable Player)

For MVP in The National League I select Derrek Lee, first baseman for the Cubs because he's a triple crown threat, that is someone who leads in batting average, homeruns, and RBI's.

In the American League, it's going to be Brian Roberts, who plays second for the Baltimore Orioles. He went from an average player to a great player by hitting better, leading the America League with a .341 as of July 22, 2005.

The Cy Young Award

The Cy Young Award is given to the best pitcher, and I think the best pitcher in the NL is Dontrelle Willis of the Florida who has a record of 14 wins and 4 losses as of July 22 of this year. (He's pitching to night.)

For the AL I select John Garland of the Chicago Red Sox.

Rookie of the Year

I choose Lance Niekro of the SF Giants because he leads all rookies in RBI's, homeruns, and batting average (279). He's an average first baseman.

In the American I predict Robinson Cano, the second baseman of the Yankees. He's an outstanding hitter, batting .303 as of July 27, and an average fielder.

Playoffs and League Champs

Even though I'd like the Giant to, realistically I think the St. Louis Cardinals will win the league.

PLAYOFFS: East: Washington Nationals, Central, St. Louis Cardinals,West San Diego Padres or the SF Giants (I hope), wildcard, the Atlanta Braves

In the American League, I have to go with the New York Yankies. They're always there.

PLAYOFFS: East: Yankees, Central, Chicago White Sox,West The Oakland A's, wildcard, the Boston Red Sox

Gold Glove Awards

first base= JT Snow, Giants Second= Luis Castillo, Marlins Short Omar Vizquel, Giants Third=Scot Rolen St. Cards; outfielders: Andruw Jones, Braves, Jim Edmonds of the Cardinals, and Carlos Beltran, Mets; catcher= Mike Matheny, Giants; pitcher, Mike Hampton of the Braves.

Omar Vizquel is a Gold Glove contender

first base= Ritchie Sexson, Mariners; Second = Robinson Cano, Yankees; Short stop= Derek Jeter, Yankees, Third= Eric Chavez of the A's, outfielders: Ichiro of Seatle Mariners; Torii Hunter, Twins, Johnny Damon, Red Sox, catcher= Ivan Rodriguez, Tigers; pitcher, Mike Mussina, Yankees.

Eric Chavez is one of my picks for Gold Glove

Winner of the World Series

I predict the Yanks because they have the best hitting, have great depth, and better than average pitching.

Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriquez, and Gary Sheffield, and Hideki Matsui are some of their great players. And the great closer of all time Mariano Rivera.

Jason Giambi's hitting great --it's almost like he's back on the juice. Home field advantage in Yankee Stadium is a real plus.
